As a kid, I never thought I would end up in education. I grew up on a farm in Minonk, IL where all I knew was how to work hard and turn wrenches in the shop on the weekends. When I graduated high school, I explored opportunities that education might have to offer me. My exploring led me to the small town of Charleston, IL, the home of Eastern Illinois University. I spent four years at EIU studying Elementary and Middle Level Education. In my time at EIU, I not only studied education, but was part of the University Marching Band and was a Resident Assistant in three different residence halls. After Eastern, I student taught 7th grade mathematics at Chiddix Junior High School in Normal, IL. Because my student teaching was in the fall of 2016, I had plans of substitute teaching for a semester before getting a teaching position. I was given the opportunity to start teaching in January of 2017 in Galesburg, IL at Lombard Middle School where I spent 1.5 years teaching 6th grade math. Outside of education, I play the steel drum in various different venues. I also enjoy running a business that my dad started 20 years ago pouring decorative concrete borders for landscapes all over the Peoria area. Being an educator at Central Junior High School is an amazing opportunity for me. As a Peoria resident, I feel honored to be able to give back to the community that I spend a lot of time in.
